Harriet Tubman – (born Araminta Ross) was an American abolitionist and political activist.  Born into slavery in 1822, Tubman escaped and went back south 13 times to free family and friends. She was known as the Black Moses and used the Underground Railroad to deliver enslaved people to freedom. During the Civil War, Harriet served as an armed scout and spy for the Union Army.  Tubman was also an activist in the movement for women’s suffrage.
